Visa Fintech Day: Highlights from the 3rd Edition
The 3rd edition of Visa Fintech Day took place this week in Rabat, bringing together fintech startups, banks, regulators, investors, and public institutions to discuss the future of digital finance in Morocco. AI and digital payments were at the center of the discussions.
One of the most interesting announcements was the growth of mobile payments in Morocco. According to figures shared during the event, the value of mobile payments more than doubled, reaching nearly MAD 3.9 billion. The number of transactions increased from 9.7 million in 2023 to 19.7 million in 2025.
AI was another major topic. Speakers highlighted its role in reducing friction in financial services, improving customer experience, strengthening security, and supporting financial inclusion. The event was held under the theme "Reshaping Payments in the Era of AI."
The event also highlighted support for the local fintech ecosystem. Morocco Fintech Center and Visa presented the first white paper on Moroccan fintech, providing an overview of the sector, its challenges, and future opportunities. The report estimates that Morocco now has around 60 active fintech companies.
My takeaway is simple: Morocco's fintech ecosystem is gaining momentum. Digital payments are growing, AI is becoming part of the conversation, and more support is being given to local startups. The challenge now is turning this momentum into solutions that people and businesses use every day.
