Why Morocco Is Becoming a Key Fintech Market in North Africa
Morocco is becoming more important in the fintech space in North Africa.
A recent article by BKN301 explains that Morocco is building a strong digital finance ecosystem. The article says this growth is supported by digital transformation, mobile payments, regulation, and financial inclusion. It also says that Morocco is a market worth watching for fintech companies, banks, and payment providers.
One important point is the growth of digital payments. According to the article, Morocco’s digital transaction value reached USD 6.53 billion in September 2024, and it could reach USD 8.47 billion by 2028. This shows that more people and businesses are starting to use digital financial services.
The article also talks about small businesses. Moroccan SMEs are starting to see digital tools and digital payments as a way to grow, improve customer trust, and make their business stronger.
Another important point is financial inclusion. The article says that adult bank account ownership in Morocco increased from 29% in 2017 to 44% in 2021, with a national target of 75% by 2030. This means fintech can help more people access financial services.
My point of view
I believe Morocco has a real opportunity in fintech.
But we also need to be realistic. Morocco is still a cash-based country. Many people still use cash in cafés, taxis, small shops, markets, and daily services.
So, the challenge is not only to create more fintech apps. The real challenge is to make people trust and use these apps in their daily life.
For me, fintech in Morocco should focus on simple and useful solutions. People need apps that are easy to understand. Merchants need payment tools that are practical and affordable. Startups need support from banks, regulators, and investors.
This is why I think Morocco can become a key fintech market in North Africa. The need is real, the market is moving, and more actors are working on digital finance.
Through this blog, I want to follow this ecosystem step by step. I will share simple explanations, app reviews, tutorials, and news about fintech in Morocco.
Morocco’s fintech story is just getting stronger, and it is a space worth following closely.
